Short Takes

A few hundred words, written fast and meant to be read that way.

A Short, Punchy Placeholder Opinion

Example copy: a quick reaction, a few hundred words at most, written fast and plainly.

A flat sample cover, not a photograph.

A short take should fit in the time it takes the kettle to boil. This one is a sample of that shape, not an opinion about a real event.

The words are a prop. They are not a slogan, and they are not attributed to anyone.

Three things this file is for:

  1. Showing the short-take section has its own page.
  2. Showing up in the stream with the other posts.
  3. Proving a wikilink back to the sample essay resolves.

That is the whole take. When a real one replaces it, keep the same frontmatter and write the thing you actually think.

A Sample Take from a Guest

A placeholder short take with someone else's byline. The contributor is not a real person.

This file is a sample of a guest piece. Sample Guest is a label, the way “Example Source” would be a label. There is no person by that name to quote, credit, or look up.

The byline should read Sample Guest, and a guest line under the piece carries the bio. Chuck’s own pieces do not get that line. Their byline stays Chuck Houseworth, which is the default when author is left off.

A guest can still link to something Chuck wrote. The sample essay is one of those. The link works because that essay is published. A draft would have stayed plain text.

Guest Sample Guest — Sample Guest is a placeholder name, not a real contributor. This sentence is what a guest bio looks like under the byline.

A Second Placeholder Take

Another sample short take, older than the others, so the stream has more than one.

This is sample copy for a third short take. It is not a reaction to a real event, and it does not name a real person.

This one is here so the stream has an older short take to page through. When real takes replace the samples, delete this file.

It links back to the newer sample take only to show that a wikilink between two published short takes resolves.
